Understated elegance underscored the entire event for a refined—not overdone—look, says Weiss. Rather than large and blown-out, the centerpieces were kept low and intimate, allowing small, subtle details like textured blooms, champagne linens and sheer chair backs to make a big impact. “Everywhere
you looked, there was deliciousness, yet there wasn’t so much stuff that you couldn’t appreciate all of it,” Weiss explains.
From the New York location (where the bride’s family is originally from) and the Greek traditions to the vignettes of the couple replicating the bride’s parents’ wedding photos, the day was as much about family as it was about Ellie and Josh
To make the soft creams and pinks that the bride had in mind work for the autumn wedding, Weiss wove complementary seasonal tones, like chocolates, ambers and hints of burnt orange, throughout, using a champagne base to ground the eclectic palette. Hints to the season, like the fall foliage, white pumpkins and amber lighting, helped to get the point across without overwhelming anyone with it, Weiss says.
Inspired by Victorian botanical prints Ellie found in a magazine, the formal fete took on a vintage yet classic style that was more luxe than handmade. Candles and all-white blooms added a romantic glow without pulling focus from the grand interiors of the Greek Orthodox church where the couple wed. Evoking an unkempt English garden, the reception flowers brought in the wedding colors and season.

An overflowing, organic arrangement “created a wow-worthy moment when guests entered without hitting them over the head,” says event planner Mindy Weiss. The couple’s romantic, old-world style embodied the same elegant but not over-the-top look as the rest of the day’s décor.
